HOYS (How Old is Your Skin)

The HOYS program is a unique approach to understanding and analysing the age and health of a patient’s skin, resulting in the production of a meaningful and individualised treatment plan.

The aim of HOYS is to help patients to understand that everyone’s skin ages and does so fairly predictably. However, we are all made up of bits and pieces (e.g. eyes, nose, lips, facial shape and surface) ageing at slightly different rates depending on genetics and environment. Because of this everyone has areas ageing particularly well and areas ageing a bit prematurely. HOYS helps you to identify your specific areas that may be ageing prematurely and then focusses treatment suggestions on these areas. HOYS allows you to most effectively form a targeted and individual treatment plan to make you look younger and your skin look healthier.

How The Program Works

The program contains a compilation of photos depicting various aspects and degrees of ageing from different regions of exposed skin. Some of the photos have a dynamic view which requires patients to pull certain facial expressions in order to match them. Each photo has a corresponding grade attached to it (5 in each section) 1 being the least aged, 5 being the most. Each photo is accompanied by a written explanation, which tells the patient what aspect of ageing is being assessed and how each grade differs from the others. By scoring each aspect of ageing between 1 and 5 a total skin age is calculated.

Additional to the total skin age provided, the regional skin age is calculated for 7 different areas, which helps to clearly show where the patient is ageing well and where they aren’t doing as well and can then prioritise the deficient areas for treatment. The 7 regions calculated are: forehead, periorbital (eyes), midface, lower face, neck, décolletage (chest) and hands.

At the end of an examination the HOYS program provides a printed report that highlights the areas that have the greatest variant versus actual age. Procedures that could be used to reverse or minimise the effects of ageing are suggested and can then be prioritised into treatment sessions. A copy of the report can be provided to the patient together with this treatment schedule.
